We are easing into life at Ekahi quite nicely, with a general routine and even some new friends for the kids from the Bay Area. Thank goodness for Kmart, where Chris got scooters and a paint set for those afternoons that get too windy for the beach.

Today we visited Big Beach – sweeping and beautiful on a grand scale – and a smaller more gentle spot in Makena Bay.

Big Beach's shore break was a little too strong for the kids. They passed on the nudie beach next door.

I don't know the name of this beach but we really liked it. Gentle, good snorkelling, nice elevated lawn, lava rocks, shower, and bathrooms.

A beach visit is not complete without a Mathilda sand angel (think snow angel but in the sand) and a Merle sand blob castle. Of course, the water is always a big hit including fish sightings. Today, we even saw a turtle pop out of the water at Big Beach. The kids love scrambling around on the lava rocks, as well as to the dismay of some, disturbing the little sea creatures clinging to them. No fear of anything slimy and squirmy. Merle’s prized catch tonight was a baby lizard running for his life on the bathroom counter.

Mathilda looks apprehensive here, but she was actually excited too. Just trying to stay still for the shot.

So here are some more shots of our daily life so far. Looking forward to our overnight in Hana tomorrow.

This is quiet time, a time honored tradition wherever we go.
